What you need to know about your body

How you experience your period this month is governed by your lifestyle choices last month, the month before and the month before that.

Say what?!!

The reason for this is that the egg that’s selected to ovulate each month is recruited three to four months before ovulation. Going a little deeper on that it takes around 100 days for your ovarian follicles (eggs) to journey into ovulation and stimulate the production of progesterone to have a period. Mind blow!

The feedback that you get from your body during your cycle - even though those symptoms may be frustrating is what many are calling your fifth vital sign.

So those shitty period pains, crazy emotions, acne, heavy bleeding are all a sign from your body to dig a little deeper and find out what’s out of balance. It’s a cue to ask yourself what in your lifestyle isn’t supporting your hormone health?

So if you reflect on your most recent period - how was it? Normal for you or were there extra symptoms? If something was different explore what had happened 90 days before. Were you under more stress? Did you eat more takeaways? Consumed more alcohol? Were you getting your 8 hours of sleep per night? Were you over exercising? Were you poorly?

When you understand how your body works it will help you make sense of why one period one month could be pain free and on time, and then the next month full of PMS, pain and the rest.
